Ant Group's Alipay has started using nose print recognition technology for pets in its insurance app. The feature can recognize and identify pets based on their nose prints, similar to facial recognition in humans.
- To use the feature, users download the Alipay app, set up a digital profile of their pet, and upload photos of them. The AI locates biometric markers on the animal’s nose to identify them.
- The app allows them to buy an insurance plan for their pet. When the owner wants to claim insurance benefits, the nose print will verify the pet's identity.
- 25% of pets in the UK and 7% in Japan are covered by insurance, compared to less than 1% in China.
- Smartphone app Finding Rover uses machine learning to match photos of lost dogs to images in a database.
