Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla AI Day will take place on Aug. 19. The event will include a progress update on Tesla's AI software and hardware and will also be used to recruit new talent. Musk added that “convincing the best AI talent to join Tesla is the sole goal.” Reports have speculated that Musk could unveil developments related to its Autopilot, Full-Self Driving beta, and Level 5 autonomy.
The White House is seeking public comments on how to create a roadmap for its National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource, or NAIRR. The request for information comes after the Biden administration launched a NAIRR Task Force, which is helping to develop a strategy to open up more government data to AI researchers. The Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation issued the request, which asks members of the public what they think a NAIRR implementation plan should look like and what resources it should provide. Comments can be made through Sept. 1 by emailing NAIRRfirstname.lastname@example.org.
Cassie, the bipedal robot developed by Agility Robotics, ran 5 kilometers untethered on a single charge. The robot completed the run in 43 minutes and 49 seconds. The same team had previously taught the robot how to walk up and down stairs without using LIDAR or cameras. Agility Robotics was co-founded by professors at Oregon State University in 2015.
