The Las Vegas CES has emerged as a battleground between Amazon and Google over its voice assistant products. Amazon's Alexa was the star of last year's show, but for the first time in several years, Google is at the event and heavily promoting its products. Google placed a prominent “Hey, Google” ad on the Las Vegas Monorail. It also has an outdoor CES booth, complete with a twisting blue slide, setting the stage for Google Assistant to grab its own share of headlines and industry partnerships this week. Amazon also has a booth at CES, where it is showcasing its Alexa products. — GEEK WIRE

About one in ten of Amazon's Ohio employees or their family members received government food assistance in 2017, according to a recent study. The research group Policy Matters Ohio found that 10 percent of Amazon employees in Ohio receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, which are available to people and families living below the poverty line. Amazon has received $125 million in tax breaks and cash grants to open new facilities in the state since 2014. Policy Matters Ohio ranked employers with the most employees in families that receive public food stamp benefits. In a statement to The Daily Beast, Amazon said it was paying its full-time workers a living wage. — THE DAILY BEAST
