For the first time, Amazon will co-produce a Hindi-language original film: the action-adventure "Ram Setu" starring Akshay Kumar. The move marks Prime Video's initial venture into movie production in India, Reuters reports.
- “Parmanu's" Abhishek Sharma will direct and Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi (“Prithviraj Chauhan”) will creative-produce the film, which will release in theaters and later stream worldwide.
- The film’s title references the Hindi name for Adam’s Bridge, which Indian mythology holds was built by an army led by the Hindu God Rama.
- Kumar said the story "represents strength, bravery and love, and uniquely Indian values that have formed the moral and social fabric of our great country."
- India is one of Prime Video's fastest-growing markets. Users there can access the Prime loyalty program, including free delivery and video streaming, for 999 rupees ($13.77) a year.
