2. A former Apple employee has been charged with the theft of trade secrets related to the company’s self-driving car project. The FBI filed charges this week against Xiaolang Zhang, who was hired in December 2015 to work on the company’s “Project Titan,” which is developing autonomous vehicle software. Zhang had a role on Apple’s “Compute” team, which designed and tested circuit boards to analyze sensor data. He left his role earlier this year to move to China, where he ended up working at XMotors, a Chinese autonomous vehicle startup. According to court documents filed, Zhang was provided with "broad access to secure and confidential internal databases.” Zhang admitted to the FBI in late June that he had stolen the information and was arrested. For stealing Apple’s trade secrets, Zhang could face up to 10 years in prison and be slapped with a $250,000 fine. — MAC RUMORS
