Pope Francis arrived in Myanmar on Monday in his first visit to a Buddhist-majority country. In a brief courtesy visit, Francis met with Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, the chief of Myanmar’s military, which has been accused of “ethnic cleansing” in its operations against the Muslim minority. A Vatican spokesman said the Pope and military officials “spoke of the great responsibility of the authorities of the country in this moment of transition.” On Tuesday, Francis is scheduled to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s de facto leader. The Roman Catholic Church has advised Francis not to use the word “Rohingya” out of concern that it could aggravate the situation. More than 620,000 Rohingya Muslims had fled into neighboring Bangladesh to escape persecution in Myanmar's Rakhine State. The U.S. and U.N. have condemned Myanmar's attacks against the Rohingya. - NYT

Tufts University has delayed an event featuring former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, after he threatened to sue a student newspaper for criticizing him. Scaramucci, through his attorney, sent a letter to "The Tufts Daily" and a student who authored op-ed pieces raising concerns about his role on the Tufts’ Board of Advisors. The letter stated that Scaramucci, a Tufts alumnus, was "ready to take legal action" over the allegations. Scaramucci asked for an apology and a retraction. On Monday, a Tufts spokesman said the university is postponing the event until the legal issues are resolved. President Trump fired Scaramucci in July, 10 days after he was appointed as the White House communications chief. - USAT

President Trump will not travel to Alabama to campaign for GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore, a White House official told the Associated Press. Last week, Trump appeared to support Moore over his Democratic challenger, Doug Jones, telling reporters that "We don't need a liberal person in there." Trump also noted that Moore denies the allegations from multiple women that he engaged in sexual misconduct decades ago, when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s. A White House spokeswoman told The Hill that Trump has not scheduled a campaign stop for Moore at this time. The special election is scheduled for December 12. - AP

New home sales rose to their highest level in 10 years in the U.S. last month. The Commerce Department said on Monday that the sales rose 6.2 percent in October, to a seasonally adjusted yearly rate of 685,000 units. The fast pace reflects a strong economy, as well as a shortening supply of current homes for sale, the Associated Press reported. The Midwest and Northeast posted the largest sales increases. October's growth also marked the third consecutive monthly gain in new sales. - REUTERS

A gap between Walmart and Amazon's online prices is closing, a study conducted for Reuters has found. A year ago, Walmart.com's prices were on average 3 percent higher than Amazon's prices; the gap has since closed to 0.3 percent, according to the data analytics firm Market Track. For a period of 700 days ending on November 7, the company analyzed the prices of 213 products in 11 categories. The category of popular wearables averaged 6.4 percent lower, compared to 12.6 percent higher a year ago. According to Reuters, the results show that Walmart has cut prices online "across several product categories consistently, rather than with just temporary discounts." - FORTUNE

Attorneys for former national security adviser Michael Flynn met with special counsel Robert Mueller’s team on Monday morning, indicating a possible plea deal, ABC News reported. Days before, a separate report alleged that Flynn's attorneys are no longer sharing information about the investigation with Trump's legal team. Citing sources familiar with the probe, ABC News wrote that Flynn has experienced growing pressure since the prosecution turned its focus on his son, who worked for his consulting group, Flynn Intel Group. The younger Flynn also visited Russia with his father two years ago and sat next to President Vladimir Putin during a dinner. Flynn resigned in February after sources revealed that he lied about speaking to Russian officials about sanctions relief. - ABC

Dictionary.com has chosen "complicit" as its word of the year. The website defined the word as "choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act, especially with others." Online searches for the word have jumped 300 percent over last year. Lookups mainly spiked a day after "Saturday Night Live" lampooned first daughter Ivanka Trump in a March skit about a fictional new perfume called Complicit. In an announcement, the website said the word has appeared in "other conversations about those who speak out against powerful figures and institutions and about those who stay silent." - CNN

Emergency officials asked residents to close their windows and stay indoors after a train carrying molten sulfur derailed in Florida. Rail operator CSX said nine cars derailed in the incident that occurred early Monday near Lakeland, in Polk County. County fire officials said several cars were found “rolled over and mangled" shortly before 2 a.m. After leaks were confirmed, deputies alerted nearby residents and asked spectators to stay clear of the site. Molten sulfur, a hazardous material, is used to make detergent, rubber and fertilizers, and can create flammable and toxic gases. - NPR

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a case challenging a Confederate emblem on the Mississippi flag. An African-American attorney from Mississippi filed a lawsuit, seeking to declare the flag an unconstitutional relic of slavery. Mississippi's state flag, which hasn't changed since 1894, features the Confederate battle symbol in its upper left corner. In April, a federal appeals court declined to consider the lawsuit due to "lack of standing," saying a person cannot sue the state because they feel stigmatized. The Supreme Court did not provide a reason for the rejection. - PBS

President Trump referred to Senator Elizabeth Warren as "Pocahontas" during a speech honoring Native American war heroes on Monday. Trump has used the nickname in the past to describe Warren, who claims Native American ancestry. On Monday, he made the remarks while standing next to three Navajo code talkers, who assisted the U.S. Marine Corps in developing a secret code during World War II. "You were here long before any of us were here,” Trump said. “Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.” The room was silent afterward, according to reports. - CBS
