New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Twitter that she is filing a suit to dissolve the National Rifle Association for self-dealing and illegal conduct. An investigation into the NRA began last year.
More:
- The NY AG claims that the NRA diverted millions of dollars from its charitable causes to senior leadership and executives, and for the purposes of tax fraud. She claims the money was used for private jets, expensive meals, and trips to the Bahamas, among other places.
- James says that the backroom dealings and diverting of funds had lost the organization itself over $63m.
- The NRA responded on Twitter, calling the move a baseless, premeditated attack and an attempt to score political points. The group said it would fight the lawsuit.
