YouTube has launched a beta version of Shorts, its new TikTok competitor, in India. The company has announced plans to expand the product into more countries in the near future. Earlier today, sources confirmed that ByteDance made a deal with Oracle to allow TikTok to continue operating in the U.S.
- India banned numerous Chinese software companies from operating in June after a military conflict caused the death of Indian Soldiers.
- Indian TikTokers moved to apps including Roposo, Triller, and StarMaker, but many struggled to mimic their previous viewership from TikTok.
- Shorts will be competing internationally with Reels, a TikTok doppelgänger launched by Instagram in over 50 countries including India.
