The most-streamed shows in the U.S. in 2020 were network mainstays "The Office," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Criminal Minds," all on Netflix, according to media rating company Nielsen. The most-watched film on Nielsen's chart was "Frozen II" on Disney+.
More:
- This is the first time Nielsen has published a list of the most-streamed shows for a given year; the company also started releasing weekly streaming charts in 2020.
- Currently, Nielsen only monitors programming from Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and Amazon; it has not yet added the ability to measure Apple TV+, HBO Max, or Peacock viewership.
- As well, Nielsen only measures shows or films viewed on televisions, as opposed to computers or mobile devices.
- The most-viewed show that debuted on a streaming platform was "Ozark," while the lone non-Netflix show to crack the Top 10 was Disney+'s "The Mandalorian."
