3. A hacker exploited a vulnerability in the production databases of Matrix.org, an open network for decentralized communication. The incident gave the attacker access to unencrypted message data, password hashes and access tokens. It is recommended Matrix.org users change their passwords immediately. After the attack, the hacker left a post-mortem on GitHub offering advice on how the platform could have avoided the incident. - MATRIX

Project Spotlight: Slimvoice

Slimvoice is this week's "Project Spotlight." Slimvoice is essentially an invoicing web app that I chose to highlight because of how it was built. While initially its developer, Matt Reyer, built the app with Angular and React, he soon discarded these frameworks for a JavaScript-free frontend instead. "I wanted to prove that it was possible to deliver an amazing user experience with a great design while drastically reducing the complexity of the code, maximizing reliability, and minimizing the cost to the end user," Matt explained. He recently finished rebuilding the app with as little JavaScript as possible and has written blog posts sharing the JavaScript-free UI tricks he learned along the way. You can check these out here
