1. Russian police arrested Nginx developer Igor Sysoev and the company's co-founder Maxim Konovalov. Law enforcement officials detained the two while conducting a raid on the company behind the popular web server's Moscow offices after the Rambler Group filed a copyright infringement complaint. The parent company of rambler.ru, one of Russia's biggest search engines and internet portals, claims it owns the Nginx web server code, as Sysoev created Nginx during his free time while he was working as the company's system administrator in 2002. Nginx, one of the world's most popular web server software programs, is used by 30 percent of the world's websites today – including Netflix – and was purchased for $670 million in March by U.S. technology company F5 Networks. - ZDNET

2. Text editor Vim 8.2 is now available. This new release comes with popup windows, which allow developers to see messages, code snippets, and more on top of the text being edited. It also introduces text properties, which the Vim team says users can use for a wide variety of simple and complicated tasks, including "using an external parser to locate syntax items and highlight them asynchronously." Other new features include new change listener support, a ":const" command for declaring a variable that cannot change, and more. - VIM

3. Follow Friday: This week, I'd like to introduce readers to Yegor Bugayenko. A programmer, Yegor is the author of Elegant Objects, a book about object-oriented programming. He is also the founder of software engineering and management platform, Zerocracy. Yegor tweets insightful, straightforward tips about software architecture and the business of working as a freelance developer, offering "radical" advice like urging developers to, for example, prioritize architecture over client's happiness in order to build a good product. He also posts about general development-related topics and tips, offering advice on code reviews and more. You can follow him on Twitter here

4. Gutenberg 7.1 has been released. This new version comes with custom select control, text highlight, and custom gradient picker components developers can use in their plugins. Other new features include an improved native multi-block selection process, a pop-up welcome modal, drag-and-drop featured images, a new demo block template named index.html that can be used as a backup when no other template is available, and more. - WORDPRESS

5. The Visual Studio Code team launched its November 2019 release. Visual Studio Code version 1.41 offers support for optional chaining in both JavaScript and TypeScript, and introduces a new debug START view designed to make it easier to start and configure debugging in a new workspace. Other new features include compact folders in Explorer, the ability to edit both files in a difference view, the addition of a "mirror cursor" when editing HTML tags, and more. - VISUAL STUDIO CODE
