GitHub CEO Nat Friedman announced the company has signed an agreement to purchase popular JavaScript package manager npm. In a blog post, Friedman says the company plans to integrate npm into GitHub. As a result, developers will benefit from new capabilities, including publishing improvements as well as security updates; in the future, for example, will be able to track a change from a GitHub pull request to the npm package version that fixed it. GitHub also assures npm users that npm v7 CLI will remain free and open source. Meanwhile, npm's paying Pro, Teams, and Enterprise customers will be able to migrate their private npm packages to GitHub Packages.

The U.S. Supreme Court has postponed hearing oral arguments in the Google vs. Oracle copyright case and all other cases because of the coronavirus. It is the first time the Supreme Court has done so since the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918. "The court will examine the options for rescheduling those cases in due course in light of the developing circumstances," the announcement added. Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court were scheduled to hear oral arguments in the Google vs. Oracle case on March 24, 2020, before making a decision a few months later. Oracle, which owns Java, argues Google owes them at least $8.8 billion for using Oracle Corp.’s software in its Android mobile operating system without a license.
