The beta version of V8 version 8.6 has been released, and will be generally available once Chrome 86 Stable is out. Some highlights:
Google deprecated the Chrome Web Store payments system and will be shutting it down entirely in the next few months. As of Sept. 21, it is no longer possible to create new paid extensions or in-app items. Users are advised to migrate and find another payment-handling option to monetize their extensions.
- Those who monetize their extensions using InAppProducts, UserLicenses, Payments in the Chrome Web Store API, as well as those who configured a one-time purchase for their extension using the developer dashboard, will specifically need to migrate.
- In addition, those who used the following buy.js helper methods must do so as well: google.payments.inapp.getSkuDetails, google.payments.inapp.buy, google.payments.inapp.getPurchases, google.payments.inapp.consumePurchase.
- Dec. 1, 2020: Free trials are disabled. The "Try Now" button in CWS will no longer be visible, and in-app free trials requests will result in an error.
- Feb 1, 2021: Existing items and in-app purchases can no longer charge money with Chrome Web Store payments.
