VMware has purchased Saltstack, the company that produces the Salt open-source software. Through the acquisition, VMware plans to extend its automation capabilities to the software and packages within virtual machines and containers.
- VMware says it will also improve its vRealize cloud management software suite with end-to-end automation and integrated configuration management.
- VMware also reassured Salt users it will fully support SaltStack's work on open source projects.
- The announcement comes as the virtual VMworld 2020 is currently taking place from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1.
