Attackers are targeting critical bugs in unpatched SAP enterprise applications, warned a report by SAP and security firm Onapsis. The researchers detected at least 1,500 attack attempts between June 2020 and March 2021, with at least 300 being successful. The SAP apps under attack are employed in around 400,000 enterprises worldwide.
More from the report:
- On average, SAP vulnerabilities are weaponized in less than 72 hours.
- New unprotected SAP apps provisioned in the cloud are discovered and compromised in less than three hours.
- By exploiting the bugs, attackers could take control of unsecured SAP applications, bypass security and compliance controls, steal sensitive information, perform financial fraud, or deploy ransomware.
Zoom Out:
- At least 10,000 servers were running incorrectly configured software that could expose them to direct attack using SAP or Oracle exploits, according to a report by Dark Shadows and Onapsis.
