Google has announced that it is decreasing the service fee for all subscriptions on Google Play from 30% to 15%. The new pricing plan comes into effect from Jan. 1, 2022.
- Google also reduced the service fee for developers in the Play Media Experience Program from 15% to 10%. The program encourages video, audio, and book developers to build experiences between different devices like mobile phones, TVs, cars, etc.
- Google has been facing criticism across the globe from regulators for its pricing structure and not allowing third-party payments for in-app purchases.
- Google also published quotes of support for the new pricing plan from CEOs of Bumble and Duolingo.
- The announcement comes ahead of the Android Developer Summit, which is on Oct. 27 and 28.
