Inside Drones (Jun 5th, 2018)

Two drone videos posted to YouTube show Apple’s headquarters being cleaned ahead of this week's Worldwide Developers Conference. Drone pilot Duncan Sinfield shot the first video with a DJI Inspire 2 and a Zenmuse X7 camera. In the description, Sinfield wrote that some 9,000 trees were permanently planted at the 175-acre headquarters in Cupertino, California. "Crews work 24 hours per day to maintain all aspects of Apple Park, including washing the window shades at least once per week," Sinfield wrote. The second video was shot by Matthew Roberts, who used a Phantom 4 Pro to capture imagery of the spaceship-like building. "We see notable changes in the amount of trees planted and the amount of detail paid to keeping the spaceship clean," he wrote. Apple’s WWDC takes place through Friday, June 8, at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose. - DRONEDJ

The U.K. introduced new laws that will restrict drone pilots from flying above 400 feet and near airports. The restrictions, which take effect on July 30, are designed to improve safety and accountability for drones, the government said. The measures ban pilots from flying within a kilometer (about 6/10 of a mile) of airports. Owners with drones weighing 250 grams (about half a pound) also will have to take an online safety test and register their aircraft with the U.K.'s Civil Aviation Authority. That requirement takes effect on November, 30, 2019. According to the government, 93 drone incidents involving aircraft occurred in 2017, up from 71 the year prior. - TECHCRUNCH

A bill making its way through the Illinois Legislature would clarify how law enforcement can utilize drones. According to the Daily Chronicle, the proposed measure would limit police and other agencies to using UAVs for crowd control and public safety. It would bar agencies from equipping drones with projectiles, stun guns and tear gas. The Illinois Senate already approved Senate Bill 2562, which currently faces two amendments in the state House. - THE DRIVE

Drones will soon monitor traffic and flooding in Manila, the Philippines. The remote-controlled drones are outfitted with cameras to monitor the capital during traffic gridlock, large events and emergencies. A private citizen donated the DJI Inspire 2 and three Phantom 4 drones to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The drones can remain in the sky for up to 30 minutes and fly as far as 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) away from the pilot. - INQUIRER
