Yuneec International has unveiled its Mantis Q drone, which is now available for pre-order in the US. The $499 foldable drone has voice control technology, autonomous flight modes and 33 minutes of battery life. The drone responds to voice commands such as "Take a picture", "Record a video" or "Take off", while its facial detection and gesture control technology can automatically take photos when it detects a smile or a hand wave. Billed as a "travel drone," its camera can record 4K video, or electronically-stabilized 1080p, and take 13-megapixel photos. - NEW ATLAS

RoboTiCan has a drone that can collide with and take down rogue aircraft. The Goshawk octocopter is 30 inches in diameter and has carbon fiber propellers, which are lighter and stronger than traditional plastic propellers. The drone uses a radar system to scan for drone threats, and AI and machine vision to identify targets. Once a threat is found, Goshawk launches and collides with the rogue UAV in mid-air. Goshawk has a top speed of 42.5 mph and a max range of 5 miles. - DRONE DJ

A northern Indian state will deploy drones as part of a surveillance system designed to watch over its forests and wildlife. The Rajasthan government aims to crack down on poaching, infiltration and other issues in its vast system of forests. A new high-tech surveillance mechanism, comprised of five drones and 100 cameras, will monitor protected areas. The technology includes thermal-sensing cameras to surveil night-time activities, since poaching often occurs at night. It will concentrate on protecting vulnerable species, such as lions, cheetahs, and tigers. - INC42

Drones are helping potato farmers map out their crops to better apply herbicides. In trials, drones took imaging scans that revealed dense areas of foliage, which can help farmers alter their water volume and nozzles for spraying herbicides. Drones can also help growers better focus their vine kill efforts. Many farmers already deploy drones to create aerial maps of their farms for better crop management.- FRUITNET
