1. Drones could help locate missing hikers and injured people on Japan's Mount Fuji. Japanese mobile phone carrier KDDI recently carried out a successful trial in which a drone rescue team located a hiker on the mountain. The system uses tools from Weathernews that can track and predict the weather, allowing a drone pilot to choose the most efficient flight path for the search. Several thousand injuries were reported on the mountain, which is Japan's highest, in 2017. - DIGITAL TRENDS

2. A Cambridgeshire man became the first person in the U.K. to be convicted of flying his drone in the path of a police helicopter. A court found Sergej Miaun, 37, guilty of flying his DJI Phantom 4 in an unsafe manner that interfered with police operations. According to records, a police helicopter searching for a missing woman near the River Nene was forced to take "evasive action" when the pilot saw Miaun's quadcopter flying beneath his aircraft. While Miaun denied flying the drone far from his home, an analysis of the flight path showed it had traveled half-a-mile away. Miaun was ordered to give up the drone and pay fines and court costs of £464 ($595). - THE REGISTER
