Inside Facebook (Feb 16th, 2017)

Facebook for the last decade has focused on connecting friends and families," but will transition to a new focus: developing the social infrastructure to build communities. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg penned a 6,000 word  statement to the Facebook community where he said Facebook would become a vehicle for "keeping us safe, for informing us, for civic engagement, and for inclusion of all." Zuckerberg said the company will emphasize creating safe, supportive, informed, civically-engaged and inclusive communities. The social networking company has implemented changes to flag content perceived as fake or untrustworthy and prioritize content that is from reputable sources and that is engaging a wider audience. Facebook's advertising revenues grew 53 percent to $8.81 billion in the final quarter of 2016. The number of daily users also increased by 18 percent year over year. Zuckerberg also said the company would push for stronger community guidelines. "There are many of us who stand for bringing people together and connecting the world. I hope we have the focus to take the long view and build the new social infrastructure to create the world we want for generations to come," Zuckerberg concluded in his post.
