A child ailing from a severe case of the chicken pox appears to have had his identity stolen on Facebook. Images of the 2-year-old boy, covered head to toe with chicken pox marks, were used in a post attempting to raise money for cancer. The message claimed the boy had cancer and that Facebook would donate money for surgery if users "liked" it. The post drew more than one million likes and comments since it was created in early February. The boy's mother messaged Facebook to complain about the photos and the account was removed on Feb. 10, but then recently reappeared. Photos of other children were used on the page. "What's so disgusting [is] it's not just Jasper's pictures but [about] 100 of other people's families as well," mother Sarah Allen said. Security experts believe the photos were stolen as part of a "link farming" effort, where scammers try to force people to interact with a Facebook post, so they can take the contact list and direct further sales messages to those individuals. – BBC

People can now transfer money internationally through Facebook. TransferWise has launched a new chatbot that allows Facebook users to shift funds through Messenger. The service allows users of the messaging app to transfer money into a local TransferWise bank account in their home country. TransferWise will then pay the same amount from its local account in a second country of the user's choice. The service allows people to move money between the countries of the U.S., Canada, Australia and the European Union. Facebook users were previously able to transfer money only within the U.S. – CNN

A 10-year-old girl asked an Ohio police department on Facebook for help on her homework, and she got it. Ten-year-old Lena messaged the Marion police department and said, “Well I don’t understand (8+29)x15.” Police Dept. Lt. B.J. Gruber responded: “Do the numbers in the parenthesis first so in essence it would be 37 x 15." The girl asked another question. “Ok now if I had this (90+27) + (29+15) x 2. Which one would I do first?” The officer's response? “Take the answer from the first parenthesis plus the answer from the second parenthesis and multiply that answer times two,” Gruber explained. “Work left to right doing the work inside the parenthesis first.” Unfortunately, the officer's directions to the second question were incorrect (multiplication comes before adding the first parentheses). "Hoping it is truly the thought that counts since apparently I cannot!” he said. – CBS NEWS

Inc. leases space. Facebook in January decided against leasing more than 55,700 square feet of office space on Oxford Street in London. The company also is reportedly looking to build a new data center in Nebraska. – BLOOMBERG

A Facebook post got an elementary school teacher in Florida reprimanded for allegedly "racist" comments. Veronica Fleming was removed from her role as a computer lab instructor at Parkside Elementary School in Collier County after parents found a Facebook post where she praised President Donald Trump’s policies on immigration. In the post, she wrote, “The funny part about immigrants staying home is the rest of us who pay for them are here to work like we’ve always been. Look’s like less mouths to feed. Have fun while you can. So glad to hear about mass deportation. Let’s make America great again. Thanks Donald Trump!!” Many immigrants chose to stay home from school and work on Feb. 16 to protest President Trump's immigration policies. The teacher has been temporarily reassigned, but more than 3,000 people have signed a petition to have her terminated. – THE BLAZE

The sound now plays as a default on all Facebook news feed videos. Expect to hear the video if your phone is not set to silent and you haven’t disabled the feature in Facebook’s settings panel. The sound from its videos will not interrupt music from Apple Music, Spotify, or any other mobile audio source. The company hopes that by turning on sound automatically on all videos, more people will stay engaged for longer periods of time, a factor that Facebook can monetize. Facebook is currently transforming its social network into a destination for video, both recorded and live streamed. – TECH CRUNCH
