Newspaper publishers are asking Congress for an antitrust exemption so that they can join together to negotiate with Facebook and Google. The industry trade group, called the News Media Alliance, includes the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and many other publications. The alliance will give news outlets more leverage against Facebook and Google, which together command 70 percent of the $73-billion digital advertising market. Newspaper ad revenue in 2016 was $18 billion, down from $50 billion a decade ago. — CNBC

Credit Suisse analyst Stephen Ju reported that he expects Facebook shares to rally 45 percent by the end of next year. Credit Suisse increased their price target for the stock this year to $180, and for 2018 to $220. The analyst also suggested that the company will see advertising revenue growth because of more precision in targeting consumers, particularly in the travel, auto, and real estate verticals. Facebook shares closed last Friday at $151.44. — INVESTOPEDIA

Facebook is introducing ads in its Messenger app. The company tested the advertising first in Australia and Thailand in January, and is now launching the ads globally. Facebook is looking to expand advertising opportunities on its other properties as it starts to hit maximum ad load in its News Feed. Facebook's messaging apps, Messenger and WhatsApp, have 1.2 billion monthly active users each. Messenger is the only one of these two to be monetized using the standard advertising model. — FORBES

Oculus Rift headsets and Oculus Touch controllers have a temporary price reduction. For the next six weeks, consumers can purchase the headsets and the controllers together for $399. Oculus Rift sales have been low compared to other VR hardware companies in 2017. This sale — part of a promotional push called "Summer of Rift" — offers a price that is lower than HTC Vive and about the same as PlayStation VR. Users will still need a gaming computer to operate the headsets and controllers. — VERGE

Facebook plans to build an integrated, mixed-use village in Menlo Park called "Willow Campus." The village will have 1,500 housing units and services including a grocery store, pharmacy, and shopping center. The 56-acre village is across the street from the company's headquarters. Rents in the area have become too high for many employees, and 15 percent of the housing units will be priced below market rates. Google's parent company Alphabet is also spending $30 million to help employees afford housing. — CNBC

Facebook is ready to test its paid subscriptions feature for Instant Articles. Instant Articles is a Facebook forum for news content which is provided for free by news outlets. Changes to the existing free service will include paywall and freemium models, and publishers will have control over the subscription prices as well as access to all of the subscriber data. This comes after Facebook's recent move to allow native ads on content provided by news publishers. — BUSINESS INSIDER
