Veteran referee turned Bellator analyst John McCarthy called out UFC broadcaster Megan Olivi for her praise of Khamzat Chimaev. McCarthy particularly had a problem with Olivi’s “fake stats” about Chimaev setting a record of the fastest three-fight win in the UFC.
- McCarthy brought up Hall-of-Famer Royce Gracie, who fought in the very first UFC card in Nov. 1993. At the time, the organization followed a tournament format. Gracie fought thrice that night and won all bouts via submission.
- Gracie had a similar run at the UFC 2 tournament four months later. He fought four fights that night and won ever single one via submission.
- UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik responded to McCarthy in defense of Olivi, arguing that she was making a “modern-day distinction.” He also disputed any notions of “disrespect” shown towards Gracie.
