The UFC signed three-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler. After dropping a few hints over the past couple of weeks, the two parties made it official on Friday.
- While his debut date isn’t finalized yet, the 34-year-old Chandler will serve as a back-up fighter for UFC 254’s main event title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. The two will square off on Oct. 24 in “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.
- In a follow-up interview, Chandler says he personally requested the UFC to give him a top-five opponent for his first fight. He wants to prove the hype behind him, that it’s either “sink or swim.”
- Chandler last fought in early August against former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson. He won via first-round knockout.
