- Chandler, a three-time Bellator champion, signed with the UFC last week. He will be in Abu Dhabi for the Oct. 24 event in case Nurmagomedov or Gaethje fails to make it for whatever reason.
- The number five-ranked Oliveira is on a seven-fight win streak and hasn’t lost since 2018. Chandler was knocked out in May 2019 and lost the Bellator lightweight title. For this reason, Oliveira “doesn’t understand” the UFC’s logic for elevating Chandler to title challenger status immediately upon signing.
- Oliveira was scheduled to fight on Oct. 4 against veteran Beneil Dariush, but he pulled out for unspecified reasons.
