Former UFC champion Conor McGregor says he’s jumping back to boxing to fight Filipino star, Manny Pacquiao. McGregor gave no date but stated that the fight will take place somewhere in the Middle East.
- Pacquiao’s camp later confirmed that the fight will happen sometime in 2021. A representative to “Pacman” stated that part of the fight earnings will go to Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
- This isn’t McGregor’s first time competing in a high-profile boxing match. In 2017, he fought Floyd Mayweather and lost via tenth-round TKO. But it did end up becoming one of the most lucrative combat sports events, racking up 4.3 million pay-per-view buys in the United States alone.
- Pacquiao and McGregor are under the same management company, Paradigm Sports Management. Logistically, it lessens the hoops that promoters will need to jump through to make the fight happen.
