Israel Adesanya wants a 90% salary cut on fighters who miss weight. The reigning UFC middleweight champion sees it as a form of “cheating” and called out erring fighters to just move up in weight class.
- Adesanya was left irate when his teammate Shane Young lost to Ľudovít Klein via first-round knockout. Klein weighed in four pounds over the 146-pound limit.
- The current penalty for fighters who miss weight is a 30% cut in their show money. But according to Adesanya, ramping it up to an 80 or 90% cut will compel fighters to make weight, no matter how much money they make.
- UFC president Dana White completely agrees with Adesanya’s sentiment. However, he also admitted that such penalty rulings are beyond their control and that it’s a job held by the state’s athletic commission.
