- Mayweather and McGregor fought in 2017 in the first crossover prizefighting event of the modern era. As expected by many, Mayweather won the fight and took home a reported $275m. The event generated 4.3 million domestic pay-per-view buys, which amount to approximately $600m in revenue.
- Nurmagomedov began getting mentioned alongside Mayweather’s name in March when he proposed his own rules for a crossover fight. As his stipulations indicate, the first 11 rounds are under boxing rules, while the 12th and final round will be under MMA rules.
- Mayweather has so far been silent about Nurmagomedov. However, he did disparage McGregor’s boxing skills, saying the Irishman “can’t punch.”
- As far as he’s concerned, McGregor is currently “retired” from MMA competition. He is angling for another boxing run, but this time against Mayweather’s biggest rival Manny Pacquiao.
