Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from professional MMA competition at UFC 254. The undefeated “Eagle” made the announcement right after defeating interim champion Justin Gaethje via second-round submission on Oct. 24 in Abu Dhabi.
- The 32-year-old Nurmagomedov surprised the world with his announcement. But as Khabib himself revealed, his retirement was a promise he made to his mother.
- Khabib says he no longer wants to fight without his father and long-time mentor Abdulmanap. The elder Nurmagomedov passed away in July due to heart issues complicated by COVID-19 at age 56.
- Khabib left the sport with a perfect win-loss record of 29-0. His father wanted him to achieve a 30-0 slate before calling it a career.
