Apple has turned on a feature that allows podcasters to view analytics. Podcast creators can now see when people stopped listening to a particular episode, for instance, which had previously not been available for viewing. Hosts can also now see total time listened, the average completion rate of an episode, and time per device. Data is only included from users running iOS 11 or iTunes 12.7. – VERGE

Jon Levy for Forbes has detailed seven “secrets” for creating more engaging podcast content. Building relationships with other industry experts, creating a content-sharing system, and developing actionable content are a few of the tips he offers in his piece. “It’s no secret that content is king,” Levy writes. “If you’re going to create content, you need to make it so that audiences will not only like it but engage with it on a daily basis.” – FORBES

TechCrunch has unveiled a new podcast called CTRL+T. The show is hosted by TechCrunch reporter Megan Rose Dickey and editorial director Henry Pickavet. In the debut episode, which is now available for download, the hosts discuss the repealing of net neutrality, Netflix's "spying,” and how Facebook is impacting society. Dickey also speaks to Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal”) about streaming. – TC

Matthew D’Ancona of GQ discusses the prominence of podcasts in a complicated political landscape. He argues that other traditional forms of media, such as print newspapers, still “set the agenda.” However, podcasting “fits the spirit of the age” as more people look for flexibility in the way they get their news. “It suits time-poor consumers who dislike appointment broadcasting and want to listen or watch at a time of their choosing,” D’Ancona writes. – GQ

According to a new study from Nielsen, almost 8 in 10 podcast listeners between 18 and 49 do not mind ads or sponsors in the shows they listen to regularly. This is because they understand that the ads and sponsors support the podcast. Approximately two-thirds of listeners claim that podcast ads make them aware of new products or services, and 60 percent say they encourage them to consider buying products and services. – MARKETINGCHARTS

Business Insider UK has published a list of 20 podcasts that “will make you smarter.” Some of the shows that made the list include “This American Life,” “Fresh Air,” “Revisionist History,” and “Reply All.” “There are so many great podcasts out now that you're guaranteed to find some you'll get addicted to,” writes Richard Feloni. – BI
