Terry Gross never fails to bring her interview subjects to life with her striking personality and wit. Her years of experience only make the show that much better.

2. Dear Sugar Radio. “Hosted by the original "Sugars," Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond, the podcast fields all your questions — no matter how deep or dark — and offers radical empathy in return.” Episode length: Approx. 30 minutes.  Available on iTunes

The Sugars tackle topics ranging from infidelity to children -- all of the ties that bind us and make us who we are today. It's as painfully honest as it is addicting.

3. Rick Steves’ Europe. “The podcast version of Rick's radio show brings you a weekly, hour-long audio conversation featuring authors and experts talking with Rick about travel, cultures, and people from around the world.” Episode length: Approx. 1 hour. iTunes | Soundcloud

Even if you've never heard of Rick Steves, this podcast is a must-listen for every person who's ever experienced wanderlust.

4. S-Town. “S-Town is a new podcast from Serial and This American Life, hosted by Brian Reed, about a man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it.” Episode length: Approx. 45 minutes. Available on iTunes

If there was ever a small town story to be told, it's this one. Brian Reed brings the story of John B. McLemore to life, one intriguing episode at a time, and it's hard to resist bingeing.

5. Savage Lovecast. “Dan Savage, America's only advice columnist, answers your sex questions on the Internets.” Episode length: Approx. 45 minutes. iTunes

Not for the prudish or squeamish, but the perfect podcast for those long drives with your significant other.

6. Jim Harold’s Campfire. “True ghost stories, hauntings, life after death stories and more. Hosted by Jim Harold.” Episode length: Approx. 1 hour. Available on iTunes.

Nothing beats the tried-and-true campfire story, and this podcast is full of them in each episode, with plenty of spooks in between.

7. Finding Richard Simmons. “Missing Richard Simmons is Dan Taberski’s search for Richard - and the deeper he digs, the stranger it gets.” Episode length: Approx. 30 minutes. Available on iTunes.

One of those podcasts that answers a question you didn't even know you had: What on earth happened to Richard?

An absolute must-listen for both men and women who want to keep it real and have a good laugh on topics ranging from politics to what you overheard at the grocery store.

9. Dirty John. This one starts off as any old-fashioned love story, but it's worth sticking around for the true crime twist.

10. Serial Killers. “Serial Killers takes a psychological and entertaining approach to provide a rare glimpse into the mind, methods and madness of the most notorious serial killers with the hopes of better understanding their psychological profile.” Episode length: Approx. 30 minutes. While there are several of these types of podcasts out there, this one takes the cake by focusing on a more psychological topic: the minds of the killers themselves.
