Podcast producer Wondery has raised $5 million in new funding. CEO Hernan Lopez told The Hollywood Reporter that the fresh round of funding will be used to add staff and produce several new shows, including three upcoming series. Wondery launched two years ago and has produced several hits, including “Dirty John,” which was recently picked up for two screen adaptations. Two other Wondery shows - “Sword and Scale” and “Tides of History” - have also been optioned for TV and movie projects. - TECHCRUNCH


The Atlantic has hired its first executive producer of podcasting. Katherine Wells, who was formerly a producer for The Atlantic video department before spending a year as an executive producer at Gimlet, has returned to the magazine to grow its podcast division. In announcing the hiring of Wells, The Atlantic also announced its third podcast, “Crazy/Genius,” which focuses on tech and culture. The magazine also produces “Radio Atlantic,” a topical roundtable, and “The Atlantic Interview,” which features conversations with notable figures like Bill Gates and Ta-Nehisi Coates. - RAIN


Research shows the average podcast listener is likely to be a cord cutter and take steps to avoid advertising. Acast released its first quarterly Audio Intelligence Report for the U.S. and U.K., revealing that 90 percent of American podcast listeners will pay for a premium service to avoid ads, 69 percent are cord cutters, and 28 percent use ad blockers. Listeners in both the U.S. and U.K. typically listen to more than three hours of podcasts each week, mostly as a way to relax or learn something new. In the U.K., 76 percent of listeners say they’ve taken action on an ad they heard on a podcast. - INSIDE RADIO


Podcast platform Blubrry announced a partnership that will allow its users to add licensed music to their shows. Blubrry struck a deal with SourceAudio, a music licensing platform, which will allow its podcasters to purchase a discounted single track for lifetime use or pick from thousands of tracks as part of a $9 monthly subscription. The search for “pod-safe” music is a common challenge for many new podcasters, who must navigate copyright laws if they want to use music that’s not freely available in the public domain. - RAIN


Podcasting’s most famous garage is for sale, as “WTF” host Marc Maron is moving on. Maron revealed earlier this year that he’d be selling his Spanish bungalow in Highland Park and moving into a new two-story home - and garage - just 10 minutes away. His former home is now officially listed on the market for $749,000. Maron hosted nearly 900 episodes of his pioneering show from the garage, interviewing famous comedians, actors, musicians and, in one notable episode, President Barack Obama. - LA Times
