San Francisco rents are down by nearly 5% over last year. The median 1-bedroom rent has fallen by 4.9%, which is the opposite trend of 2015 in which the median rent increased by 4.5%. In 2013, rents jumped by 13.5%. Neighborhoods like Nob Hill and NoPa saw the biggest declines this year. “Overall, the priciest neighborhoods seem to have hit a price ceiling that renters are willing to pay,” read a report from Zumper. San Francisco's Bayview district saw the largest increase in rent, with an 11% jump. - SFBT

A man hid in a back hallway of a Sears in Concord until the store closed and then robbed it of over $200,000 worth of jewelry. The suspect smashed open a Sears jewelry case and stole 127 rings. Yesterday, authorities revealed surveillance photos of the suspect in an attempt to apprehend him. He remains at large. - SFGATE

Google's self-driving car unit called Waymo is in talks with Honda to integrate Waymo’s technology into Honda vehicles. “This technical collaboration with Waymo could allow Honda R&D to explore a different technological approach to bring fully self-driving technology to market,” said Honda. Google spun Waymo off as a separate business last week but the self-driving car company is still owned by Google parent company, Alphabet. - SILICONBEAT 

A Brooklyn man was removed from a flight about to leave for San Francisco after confronting Ivanka Trump, a fellow passenger. "Ivanka and Jared on our flight. My husband expressed displeasure in a calm tone, JetBlue staff overheard, and they kicked us off the plane," read a tweet from Matthew Lasner. He and his husband Dan Goldstein were moved to a later flight. Witnesses tell TMZ that both Goldstein and Trump were traveling with children. The flight departed departed safely for San Francisco this morning. - GOTHAMIST

A man riding a Fresno bus yesterday suffered burns when his e-cigarette exploded. Surveillance video on the bus captured the man talking to a fellow passenger before his e-cigarette starts hissing and emitting smoke from the man's pocket. Some reports indicated the man might have been trying to use the e-cigarette on the bus before putting it away. The 53-year old man was treated for burns to his right thigh and hand. - KPIX

  • An elderly Chinese couple who only speak Mandarin went missing for seven hours and were eventually found safe in Hayward. QiaoQiao Wu and Decang Wu has been visiting Fremont for a week when they went missing on what was supposed to be a short walk last Friday afternoon. They were located by police late Friday night. 
  • Police have arrested a suspect in last week's bank robbery on Main Street. The unnamed 21-year old suspect is a Danville resident who was arrested out of state and is expected to be extradited to Alameda County. The crime occurred on Thursday morning when the suspect entered the Hayward bank, passed a note to a teller, and left with an undisclosed amount of money. 
  • The East Bay community has rallied to raise money for a Castro Valley California Highway Patrol officer and his family as they struggle to raise a child with special needs. The GoFundMe account for Officer Bruce Joslin and his family has already surpassed its initial $20,000 goal but a total of $30,000 is needed to assist the Joslins with a major home repair. 

Take a sleigh ride on Lake Merritt: All aboard Oakland's Pontoon Water Sleigh as it glides across Lake Merritt tonight and tomorrow night at 6pm PT. The Lake Merritt Boating Center hosts hot cider and cookies before the carol-filled rides which require reservations and cost $6. 

Don't miss Saul's latke tent: Swing by Saul's Restaurant and Deli in Berkeley between noon and 6pm PT on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to take advantage of the latke tent in front of the deli. Saturday and Sunday will feature an adjoining bandstand and beer garden. Latkes run $2.25 each and can be eaten tent-side or ordered by the dozen to take home.  

See "Iceman" in person portraying someone else: Val Kilmer is in San Francisco and dressed as Mark Twain tonight at 9:30pm PT. Kilmer stars as the famed writer in his one-man show, "First American" at the Clay Theater. Tickets to this look at Twain's life and work run $39 and include a post-performance Q&A with Kilmer.
