10. Jargon Watch: Outer Avenues. I first became aware of this phrase through a series of targeted Instagram posts from Zephyr Real Estate agent Oliver Burgelman, who in his insta ad says "I love living and working in the west side of San Francisco by the beach. I put together this logo for the Outer Avenues." As a longtime resident of the west side of SF, myself, I was unfamiliar with this phrase - as were the scores of area residents (many of them born and raised in the Sunset or Richmond) I asked about the term. Attempts to contact Burgelman (who also uses the phrase on his site) were unsuccessful, so I turned to Curbed San Francisco editor Brock Keeling to see if he'd heard the term in property circles. "I am entirely unfamiliar with that realtor-speak moniker," Keeling responded, "but am open to it. It's much better than 'Dolores Park West,' which some home hawkers are using instead of 'Castro.'"
What about you, are you "open to it"? Hit reply on this email and let us know if "Other Avenues" is part of your San Francisco vocabulary, or tweet me @eveb.
