Inside San Francisco (May 14th, 2019)

On Wednesday expect rain showers, with a high/low of 63/53. On Thursday, expect more rain, with a high/low of 57/53.

1. Respondents to this year's City Survey gave San Francisco's transit services a C+. San Francisco's Controller's Office performs its City Survey every other year, polling residents on "the public services they experience every day." The 2019 report just dropped, and looking at the grades given to most city agencies, SF probably won't get grounded, but it won't make the honor roll, either. After 2,218 phone interviews, SF's libraries were graded an A-, but it was downhill from there: City parks and 311 got a B+, city safety was graded B, and infrastructure and the government got a B-. - SF GATE

2. Bad weather might imperil Bay to Breakers. The be-costumed race across the city is planned for May 19, but meteorologists are warning that runners might be hit with cold weather and high winds during the event. According to the National Weather Service, an "unusual spring weather pattern" is expected this week, a cold front accompanied by chilly temperatures, clouds, and rain. NWS forecaster Steve Anderson says that "there’s a good chance of lingering light showers around start time as people are gathering in the streets" for the race, so maybe this year, your costume should be, say, the Gorton's fisherman or whatever this dude is supposed to be. - CURBED SF

3. One of San Francisco's most expensive restaurants has softly opened. Sushi Nagai, located at 125 Ellis Street next to Hotel Abri, is an omakase-style restaurant with a menu that starts at $180 and goes up from there. But the $180 is just a "promotional" price during its soft opening, owners say, with the cost increasing to over $200 after the spot's June 4 grand opening. (And, no, you can't order anything besides the omakase style course menu: per its website, Sushi Nagai will "not take any à la carte orders.") If you make a reservation and have second thoughts, remember to cancel in time - also per its website, no-shows and cancelations coming in within 24 hours of the reservation will be charged "100% of the total bill." - SF CHRONICLE

4. For only $2.5 million, you can buy a disintegrating shack on Potrero Hill. If you look at the real estate listing for 863 Carolina Street, you'll only see renderings of what could be -- a fairly standard open concept home full of wood, glass, and views. The current reality is a little different, as the spot is home to a rotting residence that was abandoned about a decade ago. The city has already approved the tear-down for the tear-down, real estate agent Anne Laury says, which makes it a viable option for monied buyers willing to pay the multi-million-dollar cover charge for the lot. So far, people seem to be interested, Laury says, as she's handed out 22 disclosure packets after only a week on the market. - ABC 7

5. Iconic 80s rock band Duran Duran will be doing a two-night stand at Saratoga's Mountain Winery this September. Tickets for the set of intimate shows will be offered to the general public at 10 a.m. on May 17, but members of the venue's loyalty club will have the first crack on the 15th. - SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS

6. No injuries were reported after Caltrain derailed in San Jose Monday morning. The train went off the rails at 9:05 a.m. as it pulled into San Jose's Diridon station. - ABC 7

7. The San Jose Sharks are offering free tattoos to the team's most loyal fans. During every road game throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Sharks will partner with a local tattoo shop to offer fans one of six different designs, to be emblazoned on the victim's subject's arm or leg. - KRON 4

8. Legislation to expand a controversial conservatorship proposal for mentally ill homeless folks might not make it past the committee stage. The SF Board of Supes' Rules Committee continued a vote on the plan, but initial indications suggest that it's not going to move forward. - SF WEEKLY

9. A 41-year-old man has been arrested following a fatal Sunday night stabbing in the Bayview. SF resident Salvador Chavez is being held on suspicion of murder in what police say is the city's 12th homicide of 2019. - SF EXAMINER
