A new government website has launched to combat the threat of ransomware: stopransomware.gov. The new site is a collaborative effort across multiple government agencies to set up a one-stop shop for ransomware resources for individuals and businesses.
- ~$350M in ransom was paid to malicious cyber actors in 2020, a more than 300% increase from 2019.
- Attacks on small businesses often go unnoticed despite making up ~75% of all ransomware cases.
- StopRansomware.gov will help these small businesses take steps to protect their networks and respond to ransomware attacks, and will provide enterprise-level IT teams resources to reduce their risk.
- Before the site's launch, people or businesses had to visit multiple sites, increasing the chances of missing something important.
