Newly discovered Bluetooth vulnerabilities may affect billions of devices. The vulnerabilities are collectively known as BrakTooth, and they allow hackers to remotely crash or freeze devices or even execute malicious code.
- The vulnerabilities would affect a host of IoT devices, industrial equipment, smartphones, and computers.
- The BrakTooth attacks can be done with cheap and commonly available Bluetooth equipment.
- Researchers approached the Bluetooth chipset manufacturers involved more than three months before publishing the survey. Even so, most of the companies could not confirm an upcoming patch by the time the survey came out.
