YouTube released a list of its Top 10 trending videos from the year 2020, with a monologue by Dave Chappelle landing in the #1 spot. The 27-minute clip, titled "8:46," featured Chappelle's reaction to the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers, and was posted to the "Netflix Is a Joke" channel in June.

• The Top Ten list also included Mark Rober's DIY guide for building a squirrel-proof bird feeder; the "Saturday Night Live" parody of the first Trump-Biden debate, featuring Alec Baldwin and Jim Carrey; a breakup announcement video from Jeffree Star; Ricky Gervais' monologue as Golden Globes host; and an "Office" reunion on John Krasinski's "Some Good News" series.

The mobile-only streaming service Quibi has officially shut down. Though the Quibi app will remain on devices until it's deleted, users can no longer sign in or access any Quibi content.

• The company -- led by Meg Whitman and Jeffrey Katzenberg -- raised $1.75 billion in funding and spent around $6 million per hour of original content.

"Black Mirror" creator Charlie Brooker is creating a mockumentary about 2020 for Netflix. Not much is known about the project, but Hugh Grant will apparently make an appearance as a "repellent" historian.

• In addition to "Black Mirror," Brooker also created the "Annual Wipe" series for the BBC, which takes a darkly comic look back at the major news and cultural events of the previous year.
• This will be Brooker's first non-"Black Mirror" collaboration with Netflix.
• No more "Black Mirror" seasons or episodes have yet been announced.

Many 2020 true crime documentaries and series have taken a post-modern approach, not only analyzing cold cases or unsolved mysteries, but investigating the reasons that modern viewers and audiences have become so taken with them, especially here in the Peak TV and Podcasting era. When did we all become "murderinos," to borrow the term from the "My Favorite Murder" podcast, scrutinizing obscure old case files looking for some kind of answers? And why?

The excellent HBO docuseries "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" took a personal approach, considering the situation of a single author -- Michelle McNamara -- and her years-long search for her chosen nemesis: the Golden State Killer. Vikram Gandhi, the director of Hulu's recent profile of shock rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, closes his film by blaming himself for giving his subject more of the attention he so unhealthily craves. The Netflix docuseries "Don't F*ck With Cats," on the other hand, turned its attention in its final moments to the viewer themselves, implicating them and their own morbid curiosity in making nefarious individuals internet famous.

All of these films treat the metaphysical question -- the WHY of the investigation -- as subtext. They're primarily about investigations, and while they're going about probing the crimes, the films and shows also seem to ask "What are we all doing here, though? REALLY?" HBO's new film about the infamous '70s hijacker known as D.B. Cooper starts with these questions and never looks away. Rather than simply follow an investigation into the real identity of Cooper -- a largely nondescript man who hijacked a plane bound for Seattle in 1971, fled via skydiving, and potentially got away with $200,000 -- writer/director John Dower presents us with four different groups of people who all have their own explanations.

Netflix will adapt the Spanish crime drama series "Money Heist" for the South Korean audience. The fifth and final season of the Spanish series -- an international hit -- is currently in production.

• According to Netflix, Season 4 of "Money Heist" was viewed (for at least 2 minutes!) by around 65 million households within its first month of release, earlier this year.
• The series follows an eccentric collection of criminals as they pull off a string of heists masterminded by "The Professor" (Álvaro Morte).
• Original creator Alex Pina will executive-produce the Korean remake; Kim Hong-sun will direct.

Disney+ released a trailer for the ballet docuseries "On Pointe." The show takes place behind-the-scenes at New York's hyper-competitive School of American Ballet (SAB), which can serve as a crucial launching pad for professional careers in dance.

The U.K.'s National Theatre will launch a streaming service dedicated to filmed productions of its plays. The platform, National Theatre at Home, will be available for £9.98 (about $13.40) per month or £99.98 per year.
