Netflix released the first image of Imelda Staunton in character as Queen Elizabeth II from "The Crown" Season 5. Staunton replaces Olivia Colman, who earned Emmy nominations for her performances in both the show's third and fourth seasons.
- Season 5 will also feature Jonny Lee Miller as Prime Minister John Major, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and Dominic West as Prince Charles.
- The new season will cover the period including Princess Diana's bombshell interview with BBC's "Panorama."
- Staunton was Oscar-nominated for the 2004 Mike Leigh drama "Vera Drake" and played the cruel Hogwarts professor Dolores Umbridge in the "Harry Potter" film series.
- "The Crown" showrunner Peter Morgan plans to end the series after 6 seasons, leaving a gap of at least a decade between the show and the real-world events it depicts.
