The Hollywood Reporter shed some light on the early cancelation of FX on Hulu's "Y: The Last Man," still in the midst of its debut season. Due to a number of delays -- some, but not all, related to the pandemic -- FX executives had to decide whether or not to renew the cast's contracts by October 15.
- "Y: The Last Man" had a difficult journey from page to screen; FX first acquired the rights to the comic book in 2015.
- A number of potential cast members -- including Barry Keoghan, who was originally cast in the lead role as Yorick Brown -- signed on but then departed the project prior to production.
- FX parted ways with original showrunners Michael Green and Aida Croal in April 2019, before bringing in current showrunner Eliza Clark in June.
- As the comics were published by Vertigo -- a DC Comics subsidiary owned by WarnerMedia -- HBO Max could provide a potential new home for the series.
