Inside Trump (Jun 24th, 2019)

1. President Trump issued an executive order Monday imposing additional sanctions on Iran. The news comes after national security adviser John Bolton warned Iran on Sunday that the country should not interpret Trump's decision to call off military strikes as a sign of weakness. "As President Trump said on Friday, our military is rebuilt, new and ready to go," Bolton said. Trump last week nearly ordered an attack on Iran but changed his mind with minutes to spare as he said he was worried about casualties. However, while the president avoided pursuing military action, reports reveal Trump did approve of a cyber attack on Iranian military computer systems. - CNN

2. The president postponed mass immigration raids against undocumented families for another two weeks. Trump originally planned to deport over 2,000 undocumented immigrants in 10 cities on June 23, but delayed doing so "at the request of Democrats." "I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border," the president clarified. - ABC NEWS

3. Trump signed an executive order designed to make healthcare prices more transparent. Trump ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to mandate hospitals and insurers tell patients what services will truly cost before patients pay for treatment. This will force healthcare providers to, for example, disclose out-of-pocket-costs prior to performing services. The order comes after the Transparent Health Care Pricing Act of 2018, which also makes prices more transparent to patients, went into effect earlier this year. - POLITICO

4. President Trump says he never threatened to demote Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. "I’d be able to do that if I wanted, but I haven’t suggested that," Trump told NBC in an interview on Sunday. Asked if he wanted to demote Powell, however, Trump responded that he "wants to see what he does." Later in the interview, Trump also blasted the Federal Reserve for not cutting interest rates. He reiterated his criticism Monday morning on Twitter, arguing the Federal Reserve "doesn’t know what it’s doing." - THE GUARDIAN

5. The president denies allegations he sexually assaulted magazine advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in the late 1990s. "I have no idea who this woman is," Trump said, accusing Carroll of trying to "get publicity." In her soon-to-be-released book, Caroll accuses Trump of assaulting her in a "Bergdorf Goodman dressing room 23 years ago." - THE NEW YORK TIMES
