- Two EV companies have already been acquired in 2021: EV charging infrastructure Ubritricity by Royal Dutch Shell; wireless power charging tech startup WAVE by Ideanomics.
- Funding for EV startups has already reached $3.7B in just the first few weeks of 2021. In 2020, venture-backed EV companies around the world raised nearly $7.8B in funding.
- A large part of 2021’s already substantial haul was thanks to the electric truck- and SUV-maker Rivian’s $2.7B private-equity round in January. The company is supposedly prepping an IPO later this year.
- Dan Ives of Wedbush Securities claimed that EVs still only make up 3% of global auto sales. That figure could reach 5% by the end of 2021, and 10% by 2025.
