Of course, the advent of the app is the beginning of all of the disruptive consumer services such as ride-hailing, on-demand grocery delivery, and everything else we now take for granted.
As they have become more commonplace, the total quarterly round count for app startups has dropped from a high of 20 in early 2015 to around 75 in the last two years.
- Meanwhile, the average round has skyrocketed to nearly $40M, after hovering at scarcely $7M as late as Q2'20. While some of that appears to be pandemic-induced, the average round had already dropped nearly $10M from an earlier high of $20M in Q3'19.
