Google experimented with a VR teaching simulator where subjects learned to make espresso. The experiment tested two groups, one that learned via a VR simulator and one that watched YouTube videos. The results, according to Google, showed that people learned "faster and better" in VR although they still had a tendency to get too close to the hot nozzle. — TECHRADAR

Japanese companies have showcased their 8K: VR Ride, a virtual-reality experience that doesn't use headsets. The VR ride debuted at SXSW this year and is a mix of a theme-park ride and an IMAX experience, where passengers sit in two elevated, swiveling seats in front of a semi-spherical screen with 8K resolution. The experience is a collaboration between NHK Enterprises, NHK Media Technology, RecoChoku Co. and Wonder Vision Techno Laboratory. — ANDROIDHEADLINES

An online multiplayer VR poker game is hosting a tournament with real prizes. Casino VR Poker is holding the invitation-only event on August 20; the winner will receive $5 million in game poker chips and the top three players will get an actual Oculus Rift and Touch bundle. There will also be gift cards, t-shirts, and other prizes. Players can get an invitation by surviving in the Pro Casino for two hours, placing in the top three in any satellite tournament, or "bribing" the pit boss Marco. — ROADTOVR

Superbright VR debuted its new multi-user creative tool Drawn at Giphy's gallery event in New York. The event was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of GIFs, and the Drawn exhibit allowed attendees to demo the tool and create together. Professional artists also took the controls to show what was possible on the platform. Up to 20 people can collaborate on Drawn. The collaborative aspect of creative VR tools is becoming more important to users, and Oculus Medium recently added a similar cooperative feature. — UPLOADVR
