HTC is launching its Vive Pro VR headsets, which are an updated version of the Vive, with a new version of the wand controller rather than the Knuckles controller. The company showed the Vive Pro at this week's CES 2018 along with the existing Vive wand, but HTC says the new wand controllers will come out and be sold with the headsets later this year. The wands will include SteamVR tracking sensors. Valve's Knuckles controllers developer kits were shipped in June 2017, but they have yet to be released. — ROADTOVR

Intel is partnering with Paramount to explore VR film opportunities for its volumetric video capture. The partnership was announced just after the chip maker built a new studio for creating VR and AR content in Los Angeles. At Intel's keynote address at CES 2018, CEO Brian Krzanich demonstrated the company's VR film technology and then invited Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos on stage to speak. Intel has used its technology to livestream sports games in VR, and will also be filming the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea next month. — VENTUREBEAT

Several restaurants are using VR to create different dining experiences. Sublimotion, a restaurant in Spain, charges about $2,000 a plate and diners wear a headset to see where their food originates and get nutritional information about what they're eating. At Mad Rex in Philadelphia, the VR experience for guests and the restaurant's theme are a post apocalyptic scenario based on Mad Max where the guest fly and crash a virtual plane and survive by cooking their own food. VREI in Austria serves drinks and food and allows guests to play VR games while they dine. — VRSCOUT

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says that his company's GPUs are completely immune to the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. The news about the security flaws broke on Jan. 2, and Nvidia issued a security bulletin this week detailing updates it made to its software addressing the vulnerability. The bulletin caused some confusion about whether Nvidia's GPUs were affected by the security flaws—Huang says that they were not, and that the updates were instead a patch for the CPU vulnerabilities, the same way that Amazon, Microsoft, and others have had to patch. — TECHCRUNCH
