Facebook has updated its Quill VR painting app with new animation tools. The product was originally built by the company's Oculus Story Studio, but when Story Studio shut down last year, Oculus said there would be no updates. But now there has been an update, one that turns the static design platform into a dynamic one. Users are now able to draw and arrange individual frames into an animated sequence. Quill is being developed by the Facebook Social VR team now that the Story Studio is gone, and the company says it is working to integrate the app's content with Facebook Spaces. ROADTOVR

The Washington Post has created an AR experience for the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. This week the New York Times also introduced a new AR feature for its app that launched with special Olympic coverage. The Washington Post AR experience is more of a game than the NYT AR coverage; users can select matches between athletes in different disciplines (a skier vs. a bobsledder, for example), guess who will be faster, and then watch the race in a 3D track projected on a real environment. The experience works on iOS devices. The publisher has experimented with AR before, including a recreation of Freddie Gray's death and an inside look at famous buildings. — JOURNALISM.CO

Audi has released a new AR app that is triggered by the company's TV commercials. The smartphone app recognizes specific Audi commercials, and shows one of four quattro-powered cars coming out of the TV and landing in the user's living room or actual environment. The app also lets users shrink the cars down and create mini tracks for them to ride on. The Quattro Coaster app was developed by Audi Norway and Norwegian creative agency POL Oslo, and is available to download for free on iOS devices. — VRSCOUT
