Snap is now working with companies to sell branded versions of its Snappables AR games. The social multiplayer games were introduced less than two months ago, and the first sponsored Snappables will launch this week. The first companies to partner on the games include Dunkin’ Donuts, King (maker of Candy Crush), and Bud Light. Snap is also making its ads on Lenses available with a self-serve managing tool. — VENTUREBEAT

Sandbox VR is launching its multiplayer zombie-fighting VR game at several new locations. The company has VR centers in Hong Kong and Singapore, and opened its first U.S. location in San Mateo, California. Sandbox VR is also launching smaller, pop-up centers, starting with Imax VR locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Bangkok. The experience uses Oculus Rift headsets, backpacks, and gaming guns, and supports four players at a time for about $25 per person.  — CNET

Oculus has revealed a new VR video playback that has 5K resolution. The company is showcasing the new 5K encoding with a re-release of a pre-rendered version of Henry, the first VR animated short produced by Oculus Story Studio, which closed in 2017. Oculus CTO John Carmack made the announcement yesterday and says that the technology will "set a new bar for immersive video quality." Carmack says the technology is coming to Oculus Go and Gear VR. — ROADTOVR

Valve is extending its existing partnership with Perfect World to bring its Steam VR store to China. Steam currently distributes more than 20,000 videogames, including 3,000 VR titles. Steam is the main outlet for HTC Vive content, and Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality headsets also use the platform along with their own stores. The partnership will help Valve break into the lucrative VR market in China and give Chinese developers and gamers access to a wide selection of content. — VRFOCUS

Microsoft is reportedly targeting a Q1 2019 release for its next-generation HoloLens headset. The device is being referred to internally by its codename Sydney. Sydney is the third version — Microsoft put off developing the second version of the HoloLens headset to push forward with the third iteration last year. The new HoloLens will have improved holographic displays, will be lighter and more comfortable, and will cost less than the earlier version. It will also come equipped with an AI chip. — THURROT

Under Armour created a VR experience celebrating Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, who just won their third NBA championship. The Steph VR experience was sculpted and painted in VR using Tilt Brush in collaboration with creative digital agency RED, and it is available on YouTube and Facebook. Under Armour will also have a pop-up event during the Warriors Parade in Oakland with a VR gallery. — VRSCOUT
