1. The Oculus Quest standalone VR headset is winning hearts at CES 2019, even prompting some reporters to call it the device “that will make me (and you) a VR believer.”DIGITAL TRENDS

“After demoing the Oculus Quest at CES 2019, I suddenly found myself more comfortable with the idea of picking up a VR headset. Portable, user-friendly, and more affordable than its technologically advanced older brother, the Oculus Quest has hardware that’s just good enough. It could be the mid-range headset that fully converts me to a VR fanatic.”

2. Realmax is showing off its Qian VR/AR headset at this year’s CES, having debuted a prototype last year. According to VentureBeat, the headset is lightweight, wireless, and is more powerful than the Microsoft Hololens thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system on a chip and stereoscopic 1080p displays. The company says the Qian headset will be priced “just under $1,000.” — VENTUREBEAT

3. Qualcomm brought a new VR headset to this week’s CES, packed with a display the company claims has twice the pixels of the Vive Pro. Road to VR calls this a “reference headset,” meaning we may see this fancy display in the next wave of standalone VR headsets. In other words, since Qualcomm and HTC worked together closely on the standalone Focus headset, might the recently announced Cosmos use this fancy display as well? — ROAD TO VR

4. Familiar stationary bike maker NordicTrack is demoing its new VR Bike at HTC’s booth at CES. The bike comes with a Vive Focus standalone headset to help gamify workouts designed specifically for VR. As Road to VR puts it, one such experience, called “Aeronauts,” puts the user into a virtual “steampunk pedal-powered glider flying through a twisting canyon.” Having used a similar setup with a 2D screen, I can definitely attest to the potential lurking within the budding VR exercise industry. — ROAD TO VR
