Google says it will shutter its 3D-object creation and library platform Poly on June 30, 2021. Users will no longer be able to upload 3D models to the platform as of April 30, 2021.
- Poly, aimed at AR/VR creators, was introduced in 2017 and allowed developers to create and view low-polygon VR objects.
- Google says users' assets will be available at poly.google.com through June 30. They can download their full libraries at takeout.google.com/settings/takeout/custom/poly.
- Poly marks the latest Google AR/VR project to meet its demise, including the recent discontinuation of Google's Daydream mobile VR platform and VR headsets.
- UploadVR notes that Sketchfab remains a good alternative option for VR creators. In a series of tweets, Sketchfab CEO Alban Denoyel said the 3D model platform is now profitable "and here to stay."
