Facebook acquired “Population: One" maker BigBox VR for an undisclosed amount. All of BigBox's employees will join the Oculus Studios team in various capacities, the companies said.
- BigBox released its flagship battle royale game nine months ago. “Population: One" is now among the top-performing titles on the Oculus platform and passed the $10M sales mark on the Oculus Store after only several months.
- The game will continue to be supported on both Oculus and Steam and will receive regular updates.
- During its time as a startup, Seattle-based BigBox raised $6.5M in funding from Shasta Ventures, Outpost Capital, Pioneer Square Labs, and GSR Ventures
- Facebook purchased "Onward" developer Downpour Interactive in April and "Lone Echo" and "Echo Arena" developer Ready at Dawn last June. It previously purchased "Beat Saber's" Beat Games in Nov. 2019 and "Asgard’s Wrath" developer Sanzaru Games in Feb. 2020.
